Getting Scout uniforms and
supplies in the basement of the Palace. Buying school books at
Eckdal and McCarty's store on West 6th. Getting out of school to
practice at the Civic Auditorium for the annual Christmas Program. |

I remember picnics at
Hernando's Hideaway and walking back from way out on East 50 Highway
when we were Sophomore's (for initiation!) I remember Burt's Drive-In..the
jumburgers and rootbeers in frosty mugs at A&W on East 6th. And how
about Chili Burgers (chili on a bun) on S Commercial cost only 10
cents. And goodies from Humphrey's Bakery. And when we fixed up the
basement of the "y" for a club and had great dances. The music of
the 50's was and is the best. The dances are back again. What fun!
The band trips were loads of fun. Summers at the pool. Remember
frozen Snickers? The pool was really big then. Funny how it got
smaller as the years went by. Remember the all school Christmas
Pagent? St. Mary's hill sledding...and iceskating on Mouse's Lake.
Slumber parties and peeling each other's sunburn's..swimming at
Kahola Lake and driving endless miles up and down Commercial. Does
anyone else remember when a bunch of girls were so daring as to wear
bermuda shorts to EHS? We were almost sent home, but there were too
many of us. Remember crinolines that made our skirts stand almost
straight out, and poodle skirts. And most of all I remember
wonderful friends...and loooooong phone conversations, usually about
boys. Shirley Woodworth Koehn Class of 1957 |

And when you had the nerve, down junk yard hill.(Highland

Partying at "Hornando's
Hideway". George Lodle got my attention with his paddle, Mr. McMunn
give me the skills to be the best driver in Florida (I'm still
alive). Hank Williams was my favorite musician, and still is.
Amazingly, I'm friends with his daughter, Jett. Watching them bottle
pop at the 7-up. Hanging around the A&W, and Blue Inn. The Christmas
Program was the best ever! Goin' to the Drive-In Theater (to watch
movies?). TV Baldwin "56" |

I remember
when EHS had to forfeit all those basketball games because of one
player! I talked to him 15 years after that happened and he said
people were still talking about it. I think he was still feeling bad
about it! Well, now it is going on 30 years and people ARE still
talking (writing) about it. CER |

I remember going to "Burt's"
drive-in and having root beer in those frosty cold mugs. Their "jumbergers"
were the best! And someone in the car always tried to get away w/ a
mug. "Dragging the gut" (driving up and down Commercial) was a
favorite pastime - always looking for the boys! Still love the songs
from the fifties - especially the "slow dance" ones by Nat King
Cole, Johnny Mathis, and so on ..and oh..Remember the tunnel under
the street which connected the jr. high to the senior high. And
remember the annual Christmas Program that was held at the Civic
Auditorium. I still think that was beautiful! so many neat (cool!)
memories! n. Scott '56 |

I'd like to place our high

I remember slipping out of
the window of our Sunday School class at the First Methodist Church
with David Jones and Bob Stephens to go to Romine's for cherry
Coke's and pinball. "Starch" Wilde was our teacher who let us get
away with it. Roy Kane '57 |

James Dean
and Elvis. The smell of bread baking at Rainbow Bakery My all time
favorite candy Valomilk. Hanging out at the 'Y', cruising around
town with my friends, or just setting out in front of my house with
'HIM'. - KD '57 |
