Reunion and other Class News

The Emporia High School Class of 1954

will hold its 45th reunion

July 30 - 31 at the Ramada (formerly Holiday) Inn.

Greeting Classmates of 1954

For months we had assumed that the reunion would be Memorial Day weekend. In fact, we had reserved the Country Club and planned the activities. Then, when we checked on the availability of rooms, we discovered that the NCAA had completely booked all the major hotels.

After another meeting and a review of your suggestions for alternate dates, we settled on the last weekend in July.

All events will be at the Ramada Inn (formerly Holiday Inn), 2700 W 18th Street, 1-800-228-2828

 Registration Form on longer valid

Friday 6:30 p.m. Conversation, cash bar, & snacks
Saturday 10:00 a.m. to noon Conversation & coffee (hospitality room)
Saturday 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Conversation & cash bar
Saturday 7:30 p.m. Class picture
Saturday 7:50 p.m. Dinner & program

At the time we planned this, the Ramada probably had enough rooms for everyone, and was reserving some poolside spots at $69 per night with AARP discount. However, there is a slow pitch soft ball championship at the same time, and the Lyon County Free Fair begins Sunday August 1. Make your reservations promptly. You may want to check other hotels for a better rate.

Come on Down!

Calling all singers, directors, and accompanists! Whether you sang or accompanied at EHS or not, please join us in some ensemble singing. Contact Calvin McBride for details and music: 10112 W 70th St., Shawnee Mission, KS 66203-4216; Home: (913) 432-9691, Fax (913) 432-7331: Email: ctmcb@worldnet.att.net.

Music for dining and dancing will be provided by Larry Alderson unless the new date makes it impossible. Larry can supply backup for vocalists or instrumentalists who let him know exactly what kind of music they will be doing. Let him know if you are interested in adding to the reunion’s enjoyment.

Emporia now bills itself as the “Front Porch to the Flint Hills.” Those who want to come early and stay late can get a packet of information from the Emporia Convention &  Visitors Bureau, 719 Commercial, PO Box 703, 66801, 1-800-279-3730; email: visitors@cadvantage.com; website: http://www.emporia.com

Golfers may not have access to the Country Club, but the Emporia Municipal may be available in our time frame. Contact one of the local golfers like Richard Solis or Jerry Trowbridge.
